Two more senior executives at BlackBerry has reportedly resigned from thecompany in recent weeks, as the company continues to lose senior managers.The company's Vice-President of its social networks, T.A. McCann resigned acouple of weeks ago, the Wall Street Journal reported. He had managed thecompany's popular BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) platform.Marc Gingras, who handled the company's callendar and contacts applicationsalso resigned in recent weeks. As mobile penetration peaks and regulators look for ways to increasecompetition in Latin America, there will be a gradual movement toward theintroduction of MVNOs, putting pressure on Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) toshare their infrastructure, according to a new report from Pyramid Research.With more than 11 percent of the world's mobile subscriptions, Latin Americarepresents less than 1 percent of the global MVNO subscriber base. MVNOsubscriptions in the region will grow at a 27 percent CAGR between 2010 and 2015to reach more than 1 million subscribers, with Mexico, Brazil, Chile, andColombia being the first markets to pick up the growth, according to the report."Based on the market's potential, operators are still insubscriber-acquisition mode," says Juliana Gomez, analyst for PyramidResearch, "which implies that they would oppose the introduction of MVNOsinto their markets." In most Latin American markets, operators are stillbuilding capacity to meet demand. Indeed, the spectrum allocated to eachoperator in some Latin American markets is unable to satisfy data servicesdemand."MVNOs can be beneficial for MNOs, regulators, and other companiesalike, but their introduction in the Latin American market won't drasticallychange the market structure," explains Gomez. With the surge of regulationspromoting MVNOs in the region, Pyramid expects to see the birth of mass-marketMVNOs in the region. "Regulators will force MVNO regulation into themarket, so operators should not waste energy opposing the measure- instead, theyshould start thinking about possible ways to take advantage of MVNOs, but theyshould act fast to achieve first-mover advantage," Gomez recommends. "MVNOsare an opportunity for telecom and cable providers to expand their portfolio andincrease client loyalty."
